This wine tasting card and event is designed for a multitude of purposes. The card commands attention in a casual, fun way as it promotes an event designed to bring people into the store. The event engages its audience with a fun, hands on experience, expands the store’s customer base and enhances sales. This event also sets up a social networking environment while offering a distinctive product selection as it educates its attendees on northwest wines at Celebrate Me Home.

This wine tasting card works for both print and digital media — it can even replace a business card  for merely introductory purposes. Using the Bamboo Create in Illustrator the wine glasses were drawn with the paintbrush tool and filled in with red using the pen tool. This fun, stylized image represents a fun, casually sophisticated event  — both designed with purpose by Davidson Miller DesignPrinting by Leamy Printing.

New company, no logo yet, but the time to spread the word to build excitement and anticipation is now — so, what to do? Build a teaser! Many teasers offer little info in order to create intrigue and mystery. The goal here was to get locals excited about Lillian’s Natural Marketplace, a brand new food store soon to open in their neighborhood. New customers, downtown Gresham area businesses and the local media were soon anxious for Lillian’s doors to open.

The goal was to create a temporary image that could go anywhere while offering a few color variations to engage Lillian’s target audience of Gresham area food shoppers. It was rewarding to see people enjoy and participate in the process by being able to choose which color handout they could keep (we narrowed it down to four color variations for window banners, two for handouts). The teaser image was built for digital and social media, for direct mail postcards and handouts, for ROP ads, and for flyers, posters and street banners. The best use was for large in-store window signage while the store was under construction. Impact and interest of Lillian’s message was strengthened with strategic use of typography and color.

This illustration called “My Japanese American Friendship Quilt” represents personal friendships that began as early as the 70’s and have continued to this day. This project began with the music inspirations of Hiroshima and their “Obon” cd.

The first piece,  “China Latina” has a melody that stirs up happiness, gratitude, honor, celebration, elegance and freedom. The second, “Kototsu-han (San Kyoku)” has a more reverent, historical layer to it which underscores the depth of japanese culture, traditions, respect and discipline — something so many of us, no matter our race, hold on to while living in America.

From concept to design, including several illustrations, this poster attracted attention and created excitement while reminding students, staff and their families of the exact date and time of their favorite annual fundraising carnival. More illustrations were created to identify and host each booth activity. T-shirts, tanks and sweats were also sold in advance with elements of this poster design to help advertise and promote this event.

Designing symbolic signage for a tennis event without words proved to be quite a challenge at first, but soon the ideas just came bouncing through!

Exploring the process of stylizing and simplifying an object then projecting human qualities and emotions to it produced very interesting results. A plain and simple artichoke has now taken center stage in various dramatic roles. My favorite role thus far is the hyper arti.

Here is a homepage redesign option for a garage door manufacturer. This format was created and chosen for its traditional, professional and easy to read style which matches this company’s business style. The use of blue, black and white compliment the logo while Windsor Republic Doors stays center stage for easy and immediate identification.

Below is the company’s original web homepage design. The goal for the redesign was to refine the font useage and restructure the information, links and hierarchy for a more organized and cohesive flow. Whether it’s their first or fiftieth visit, customers should feel like they are in professional, reliable hands.

Introducing soklet a fine maker of chocolate shavings, chocolate sticks and cocoa powder.

The package design for soklet is environmentally friendly. The cartons are made of natural paperboard containing at least 70% recycled content. They are disposable, reusable, biodegradable, sustainable and inexpensive. The paper wrap labels for the cartons are printed with eco-friendly inks and removable without damage to the container for further reusability. The cartons feature a thin metal handle and are easy to stack, carry, use and reuse.

The tin separates itself with stature, yet ties in with its metal and reusable attributes. This unified packaging series creates a unique brand identity for soklet within its chocolate, cocoa and baking industry.

soklet features hand lettering and art communicating personal and cultural effects. It’s visual signature represents generations of families who manually harvest the cocoa beans. The supporting typeface of a loosely kerned Garamond reflects an upscale attitude. Tribal bean patterns on the labels honor the culture and spirit of Solomon Islands while adding an organic and ethnic flavor to the design.

A 28-page book was created and published as part of soklet’s presentation package. Below are pages illustrating the mood board created for cultural and color inspiration and an easy, delicious recipe using soklet.

This book is available for purchase (info tk here)

As a final element and strategy for advertising and marketing an ad campaign was designed. The creative concept here was to utilize familiar chocolate quotes and change the word chocolate to soklet. This would help consumers remember the company and product name by associating and exchanging one word for another.

Transportland is a cohesive design style and direction that was created for a new public works concept. A Portland-based community services group comprised of local leaders, biz execs and community members has the potential to see very progressive ideas come to fruition. This corporate identity was designed to exude strength, unity, professionalism — along with a green approach to its strategies, processes and goals.

Logo design, brochures, business stationary, website development, an advertising campaign and promotional items completed this corporate identity package.

All communications materials were designed to represent Transportland in a professional, simplistic, consumer-friendly manner. Nothing too stuffy here, yet keeping with tradition in format. Nothing too creative or distracting, yet certainly eye-catching.

In addition to a complete business stationery package billboards were designed. These also work in smaller scale as bumper stickers and removeable decals

ads for newspaper and magazine distribution were published and these pieces also tripled their use and versatility when printed as posters and handouts

Other promtional items such as lanyards, staff /volunteer name tags, and key rings made from waterproof, unbreakable tyvek were also included.
